Cherry Angioma

A cherry angioma is a round, bright-red, pinhead– to pencil eraser–sized growth made primarily of blood vessels and usually appears as multiple growths on the trunk and extremities. It appears in adulthood and increases in number with age. A cherry angioma is not a precancerous growth and does not evolve into skin cancer. Sometimes it can be traumatized and thus bleed. Treatment may involve electrocauterization (a procedure using a small probe with an electric current) or the use of a laser [Figure 1].
